Federico is a biochemistry PHD student from Turin, Italy, researching new biomaterials. His time is spilt between the University Claude Bernard in Lyon, France and the company Lucideon in Stoke-on-Trent. “Here [in Stoke] I am studying the ceramic but for a healthcare application.”
He is currently working on a project to see how bioglasses interact with the bones to promote remineralisation, these bioglasses could then be used in a variety of medical applications, tooth fillings for example.
Reflecting on Stoke-on-Trent Federico says, “I like [Stoke] because it’s not a very chaotic and big city.” He explains, “I can see maybe for some, for some people it is difficult but as a town, it’s full surprise[s] - If you just go around a bit and search. You find real community of people, at the theatre, work, at the pub or with some musicians.”
